Alessandro Gabini – Jumping – SPACESEI

Alessandro Gabini – Jumping – SPACESEI

by Adriana Martino

SPAZIOSEI gallery opens its doors in Pescara in 2020, during Covid, directing its gaze at emerging and independent artists. In March and April 2024 offers SALTO, a series of installations and works by Alessandro Gabini, a multidisciplinary artist who intervenes and transforms space into one immersive dimension. Drawings, installations, and videos are practices used by the artist to explore new planes of interaction and say, from his point of view, who we are or who we could be. In a kaleidoscope of possibilities, the video-animation SALTO, which gave the project its name, becomes, “I jump back, I take a leap, pole vault, evolutionary leap, quantum leap, pole vault, joy jump, high jump, skip class, jump from frame to frame, jump off trees, jump to the supermarket… jump!

The proposal explores the explanatory possibility of gestures and ways that unfold, between environment and everyday choices. Upon entering the gallery, one encounters the large graphite drawings on paper that almost entirely occupy the space and scene, showing two moments: the graphic and the digital. Both arranged on two planes: the vertical, for drawings and graphic works; the horizontal, for video animation arranged on the ground, where “the leap” becomes palpable. In his multimedia research, Gabini deliberately shifts from graphite to spray, from ceramics to video, while with multifaceted multi-potentiality he ranges from art to music using drawing, painting, video, animation, installation, graphic design, as well as line drawings, chiaroscuro, animation, cardboard or ceramic sculptures, cartoons, hip-hop music, and comics. Gabini is also a musician, lives and works in Milan, records and publishes under the pseudonym Gaben two albums: Cane (Benka Records, 2010) and Vado (Vina Records, 2016), for which he edits lyrics and video clips.
